California to Disney World Florida?

Okay so is this even something I should consider? Were about 7 hours north of Disneyland California and have been several times. I LOVE Disney and would love to camp in Ft. Wilderness DW someday. However from what I can tell it would take us over a week just to drive there on somewhat of a relaxed pace. Has anyone ever done this trip? How did you do it? Or how would you do it? Or are we nuts and should we just fly and stay in a hotel? ha ha :)
  • Well we'd have to go slow with two little kids ages 4 and 2. That's why I'm wondering which route to go and how to plan it. We've been to San Antonio before and I loved it but if there's a quicker way to bypass San Antonio (and I think there is?) than it's not huge on my list of things to see. I'm thinking February because I'm not a big fan of humidity and heat and I've heard Florida has plenty of both. Were still in the process of searching for our motorhome but this is a big dream of mine!
  • At the pace we travel, it would take us two weeks one way wihtout any other day trips along the way.
  • We made that trip a couple years ago and had a great time. We took I-10 east and I-40 coming back. Staying at Fort Wilderness was the highlight of our trip, but make reservations as early as you can. San Antonio was great; Vicksburg; Cape Kennedy; the Florida Keys; Charleston, SC; Nashville were all outstanding places to experience. Have a great trip.
  • 5 Days of driving is what I could do it in. That's not playing round. However Fort Wilderness is the only way to enjoy WDW if your a camper! You will not be happy in a hotel
