I would opt for heading West through Nashville to pick up I-65. Just come through Nashville about 10:00 AM and you will be fine, I live here. Going through Birmingham, about 16 miles of road, is quite rough, concrete divided highway, but once south of B-Ham it is smooth sailing. On down through Montgomery, Dothan and picking up I-10 then east to I-75. You avoid Atlanta. A few miles farther to avoid Atlanta is what I always choose.
