We make the trip from Florida to way-Upstate NY every Spring and usually try a different route each time. This past Spring we spent a couple of nights at a fairly new campground just North of New Market. Shenandoah Family Campground

It is just a mile off I-81 and a nice young couple run it. It is also a Passport America campground if you are a member.
That said, after years of travel on I-81 and I-95, we have found the fastest and best transition from I-81 to I-95 for us has been taking US-17 from Winchester, VA to Fredericksburg, VA. We've pulled a 38' 5th Wheel without any problems and it takes you through some nice Virginia horse country.
