Campgrounds Along St. Clair River - Ontario

A long time ago I read about campgrounds along the St. Clair River where you could sit and watch the boats go by. Can anyone recommend a c.g.
in Ontario where this is possible.

  • Cathcart for sure. Triplet. We live very close. You will love it.

Good grief, that was 51 years ago when Clay Creek PP became part of the St Clair Parkway commission and therefore obviously not listed as an Ontario provincial park since then. :R

    Cathcart Park.
  • Clay Creek PP name changed to Cathcart. Probably the bestchoice
  • Thank you for this information. We have not been to this area and were looking for a new destination for a few nights before winterizing.
I was aware of Algonac on the US side, but we don't want the expense of travel insurance just now.
  • I can only think of 3 on the St. Clair Parkway. Cundick, north of Sombra, campground is a long way from the water but there is good day use area on the riverfront. Clay Creek Provincial Park, transient sites are fairly close. Mooretown is quite q way from the water. There are several day use parks along the river where the viewing is good. If you have passports, Algonac State Park across the river in Michigan has good views of the river.
The number of large freighters is about 1 per hour but there are lots of smaller boats to watch. Bring a fishing rod.
