Lots of room in Jasper. Usually at least 75 to 100 feet between sites. You have to book soon cause it is very popular. FHU are limited and book very quickly. They might already be booked for the long weekends. We use Whistler as a base, Athabasca falls is about 25 minutes south and the Ice fields is a bit over an hour south.
As was said stay away from Saskatchewan crossing. Fuel is outrageous. Food is very expensive and only mediocre. The drive up the Ice fields Parkway is amazing. Take your time. On you trip north take the old highway and go to Johnson's canyon. Lots more wildlife to see on that road as well.
We're hoping to spend at least ten days on the parkway this summer.
