The Icefields Parkway is one of our favorite trips. We have done it several times and we are doing it again this year. This year having my sister and brother-in-law coming along in their rig.
We will be spending over two months so we can go slower and spend more time.
If you are serious you must make reservations asap. I was online on their launch day (1st day for reservations) and for the days we want (and got) they were sold out for the full hook-up loops (Jasper). Banff has more spaces with full hook-ups. In Jasper it is Whistlers and Banff it is Tunnel Mtn Trailer court. If you can.. do the whole Icefields parkway and see Lake Louise also. This is such a beautiful place. They also have a camp for hard-sided rigs but with only electric. A couple of days would work here.
In Whistlers you must pay for a fire permit and make sure you get a site with a fire ring. They supply all the free wood you could want. Sites are nice and well spaced. Banff is close to town and right across the street from the Hoodoos (beautiful). For wildlife...they are all over so keep your eyes open. There are also several beautiful waterfalls that are an easy drive.
We leave from Arizona in June and won't be back til August. My sister hasn't been much and they have just retired so we will also go to Zion, Glacier, Yellowstone and the Tetons. Kind of a big loop.
We are heading up the 15 to Edmonton over and down the Icefields Parkway, then a stop to go to the Calgary Stampede, to Glacier, Yellowstone and Tetons before slowly heading home.
