I hope you make it up to Canada. As others have mentioned, the Canadian Rockies are absolutely gorgeous.
A few comments and suggestions:
1) Almost all the campgrounds in Banff National park have flush toilets and most of the larger ones have showers. There are only three campgrounds in Jasper that have services. The Parks Canada website will show the amenities at all the campgrounds.
2) It appears that you will be traveling with a soft-sided trailer. This eliminates staying at the main campsite in Lake Louise because they have a hard-sided trailer only policy because of bear activity. You can stay in the fenced tenting area, but there are no electric or water sites. The tenting area is not as close to the very busy train tracks as the other campground.
3) If you are not set on having power and water, there are much nicer campgrounds close to Banff at Two Jack Lake and Johnston Canyon. Tunnel Mountain is nice and very convenient, but you can not have open fires in most of it. You can go into Google Earth Streetview and look at most of the campgrounds for comparison. Tunnel Mountain wasn't there the last time I tried to do it, but you can take a virtual tour of the other campgrounds. There is also less pressure on these campgrounds as there are size restrictions. Another alternative close to Banff is Bow Valley Provincial Park. You can book 90 days in advance there.
4) If you haven't booked at Whistler's in Jasper you likely won't get a full service site now. If you know your dates and keep checking, there will likely be some cancellations though.
5) Check out Kananaskis Country. It would make a good stopping point on your travels. Mount Kidd is the best campground as far as services go (even better than Tunnel Mountain). There are also very nice campgrounds further south in Peter Lougheed Provincial Park.
6) Stop at the Columbia Icefields between Banff and Jasper. You take a bus on to an actual glacier.
You can spend years in the Rockies and not see it all. Our family has lived an hour away for 40 years and we still manage to see something new and outstanding every time we go to the Parks.
