camping suggestions in Montana

Hey all...

We plan to drive to Montana from Tacoma this summer...

We like peace & quiet, not the typical 'crowded rv park' experience...

We don't use the pool, the rec room, or the bathrooms(we brought our own)...

We tow a 28' trailer with a suburban... no kids... 1 dog...

Looking for advice on a few destinations to stay, maybe near water...

Thanks...

Nate & Marie

  • Go to uscampgrounds.info and you can locate all the publicly owned campgrounds in the US--city, county, state, national forest, national parks. National forests would be right up your alley.

Also forestcamping.com has great detailed info on national forest sites.
  • Placid Lake SP near Seeley Lake, Lewis and Clark Caverns SP near Cardwell, MT, Georgetown Lake SP near Anaconda, MT. to name only 3. Most MT state parks have at least some electric hookups. There are many, many Forest Service, BLM, BOR, COE campgrounds that offer various levels of services. Go to Reserve America and the MT State Parks websites for more information.
  • Go to the Montana state website and search around for Fishing Access Sites. Many of them allow overnight camping.
  • If you want to boondock, there are many, many wonderful sites in MT. Yak area is very nice and low people count!! Some nice sites along the Swan River, and in the Seeley Lake area.

As to rv park style campgrounds, stay away from the KOA at Kalispell!!!
