Can we get a TIP in San Carlos?

Hey Everyone,

Unfortunately we were not able to head South this year but we are already talking about a trip next Winter.

Last year we headed out on our first trip to Mazatlan. We had planned to spend a couple of days in San Carlos before continuing to Mazatlan. After two days we were just getting relaxed and decided to stay another day. As our departure approached we decided to push it off for another day or two..... Three weeks later we decided that we were not going to make it to Mazatlan....

We went through the whole process and expense of obtaining TIP's on my (dually) pickup and 5th wheel and never left the free zone.

My question (finally): If we go to San Carlos next Winter and skip the TIP. Can we obtain one in San Carlos if we should decide that we do in fact want to go further South?

Thanks

S.

  • According to Jose at Totonaka, you can, but it sure looked loneley there when I passed it in Jan. We have somebody in melaque who did not get a visa or permits. He never knew he had to (What did I say about using a caravan or experienced travelers to go with the first time?) At this point the best advice I could give him was to not drive around in his vehicle and make a direct run for the border, hoping he does not get pulled over, and hope the cop is bribable if he does.
  • We did in the 80's, but that has nothing to do with now.

We have always found that the further south we go, the more we like it. Currently sitting in Zihuatanejo.

    I know I will!

I LOVE Puerto Vallarta, Playa del Carmen and San Carlos. The places that I have been in Mexico that I didn't like are far easier to count than the ones I like. You can keep Cabo San Lucas and Cancun as well as all of the border towns.

One place that I have not made it to YET is Xcalak. Has anyone here taken an RV down that way?

    Thanks!!

Of course we would do the normal routine for a stay in the free zone. We simply want to put off the TIP process until we are certain that we are actually going to need the TIP.

It sounds like it should not be a problem.

    Thank you for the info.
