Canada highway 17

Doing some advance planning for summer of 2015- thinking of entering Ontario Cn at Sault Ste Marie and leaving at Thunder Bay . Has anyone driven this route lately ? what is the availability of diesel and camping facilities ? I can't seem to find much from the Ontario tourism web site.

Thanks,

Don

  • I would try to limit your diesel purchases in Canada...very pricey compared to US.
  • We drive this stretch each summer. Plenty of places to get fuel and campgrounds. As another posted said it is the main Trans Canada Highway but really not a great deal of traffic. There is a nice little campground that we stay at regularly just past Wawa. Small but nice people. Thunder Bay KOA is ok also
  • Well considering it is the main TransCanada Highway, with loads of trucks, I'm sure diesel is in good supply.
WaWa, Marathon, Terrace Bay all are inhabited!
  • I drove it this past August, I can not speak to diesel but I can tell you there is campgrounds, a couple of provincial and many private ones. I used gas and there was no problem with stations often enough, I just didn't notice about diesel. It was a beautiful drive and well worth it.
