I'm 71. No, not gonna walk thru the Narrows or climb all the way up to Angels landing, but I can do the wonderful hike down thru the Hoodoos on Navaho trail at Bryce. lol.
Last time we did the Hoodoos was during/after a big Snow Storm one December - the Sunset - the Hoodoos the contrast with the Snow was Amazing. So I'll give you the fact that it is a Beautiful Place, BUT ZION is just Special.
Must be I'm just younger - sorry didn't mean it as an age thing (born in late 46') so I'm much Younger.
Just that we still make those trips, luckily I'm not having to carry one of the Grand daughters any more as the Twins are 5 and can do the whole thing on their own.
Hoping to get them all out there soon, instructions are to throw a spoonful of ashes there when I can't make the trip, Angels landings is still in My top Ten) Bryce is close just not top Ten.
Nothing Wrong with your Favorite, Bryce is still Pretty Good!

Rt.12 is the most interesting and you get to go right past Kodachrome St Pk, Bryce and Red Canyon! All are better than Zion IMO.
Obviously you have never walked the Narrows, Climbed to the top of Angels Landings or Star gazed in the Canyon on a Moonless Night.
OMG, how we Love Zion.
JMHO,
On Edit ; But you are correct in noting the Fact that it has a lot of Competition, Great State - Great area. - LaurenExplorerx2 joloote

We were too, but we still used UT 12 to get to Bryce Canyon after Capital Reef. When we left Bryce, we just went NW via Cedar Breaks NM and Cedar City instead of through the tunnel. A little longer route, but great scenery and a chance to see another National Monument.
I'm too big for the tunnel.
I'm visiting Bryce today so I'm looking for a more reasonable route. 12 is completely out of the way to go from Capitol Reef to Zion. - fanrgsExplorer

More specifically, Torrey to Virgin? I'll be pulling a 40ft fifth wheel. I've heard 89 isn't too bad, but what about 62?
I will drive a Hundred Miles out of my Way to Drive RT 12 - why not 12?
As has been said if it's not for you - OK - but if you have no issue then It is the ONLY WAY TO GO.
