I hear ya Sue. We have that issue here as well on the mountain passes with frost heeves.
Deer is the other thing people coninute to try an avoid and do t look so see what's in the on coming lane. Always safer to hit the deer than to swerve into on coming traffic, or have someone passing on your right, and you swerve into them.
Buddy died that way, was passing a car, deer jumped out in front of the car he was passing ( on a passing lane) that car swerved into his lane and pushed him head on into a on coming semi.
Back to that mirror thing again, and not using them. Even though it happened fast you never ever swerve to miss a deer. It the thing then tell insurance people it ran into you.
