I have been surprised and dismayed at some of the important things I've forgotten at times. We're all human.
A person forgetting where he stowed his handgun is somewhat akin to a person forgetting to latch the coupler down on the ball.... the brain gets going on autopilot sometimes.
One time I went through TSA security with a fillet knife in a side pocket in my carry-on. I forgot it was in there from the previous road trip 6 months earlier. Despite the scanner it remained unnoticed, and when I found it at my destination I mailed it back home so as not to run it through security again.
