Castroville, TX to Alpine, TX via Hwy 90

We'll be traveling to Alpine, TX to Castroville on Hwy 90 in a Class A motor-home. Are there any surprises on West bound 90?
  • You'll be surprised how many ch you enjoy that drive. One of my favorites.
  • Fuel stops

    Del Rio
    Alpine
    If necessary Sanderson

Great road. I vastly prefer US-90 to I-10 from San Antonio to Van Horn.

Extremely limited / no cell service for most of the trip. You and your co-pilot might actually have to talk to each other.
  • Just came over the same route to Del Rio - Broke Mill campground is right on 90 here in Del Rio - nice campground we are staying here a week - Stripes has a truck stop in Del Rio right on 239 just a jog off 90 - filled up with Diesel there when we got to town
  • Great road! Westbound out of Del Rio there's an Exxon on the right just before Lake Amistad that's good for gas. (Bypass Del Rio on Tx Loop 79.) Sanderson is also an option for gas if you don't have enough capacity to reach Alpine. Check out Seminole State Park, Judge Roy Bean's at Langtry and the overlook at the Pecos River. When you get close to Marathon look for pronghorn antelope on the flats (but they're pretty scarce these days).
  • Be very sure to top off fuel in Del Rio. Fuel in Langtry is ~ 5.00 a gallon. IF they are open. If Memory serves me right, you will go thru 2 Border checkpoints.
