You do have to watch carefully where you go. Cell phone coverage isn't cheap, and it is very local. Don't expect to go far off the beaten path...five miles is sometimes all it takes, and your cell phone is out of range.
If you are camping in rv parks, most will have wifi. If you are away from population centers, you won't have anything.
If you are near the ocean, you should have a marine VHF perhaps. In an emergency, they are quite good and they also have the weather channels on them. We use ours almost everywhere we go to listen to the weather channels.
