- The_TexanExplorerNo permanent "legal" ones. There have been reports of an illegal one now and then, operated by an "unknown" group.
- RollnhomeExplorerI'll ask in Lukeville. Thanks
- MEXICOWANDERERExplorerATTENTION MARIJUANOS. LA POLICIA SSP WILL HAVE A SURPRISE RETEN AT KM 138 ON SATUDAY OF NEXT WEEK. (Notice is in compliance with local US Consulate wishes to have no surprse retenes to frighten timid tourists).

Mexicowanderer do you know, or did they say during what times it will be in operation? - MEXICOWANDERERExplorerGod I hate it when I have to explain a sarcastic joke.
The Nogales consulate has to be one of the stupider consuls in the country. They voiced a complaint about "unauthorized unannounced checkpoints" on that road. The police and military MUST erect SURPRISE checkpoints. Ya know it's like New Years in the states - do the cops announce exactly where there are going to be sobriety checkpoints?
Oooooo why not? That's not cricket.
Too many Americans seem to have tossed their brains in the closet before crossing the border. I have been given hazardously BAD advice by US CONSULATE agents to dismiss it. Stupid, ignorant proclamations that could have gotten my butt tossed in the bote had I heeded them.
Make friends with prosperous business owners (educated). Ask THEM important questions. I've written this more than once on this forum, I once spent FIVE HOURS at a reten sitting in the shade of a Parota tree reading an SSP law enforcement book. My mentor was commandante Joaquin Baez of the Petatlan Guerreo office of the Federal Police. He was astonished I took suchan interest in learning about laws that bear on tourists.
Mexico is anything but perfect. The law and justice system could benefit by cornholing them with dynamite. But right wrong or indifferent it is nuts to not be curious enough to ask questions and it is disgusting to pontificate to others over matters based on information accumulated in the imagination. - hypoxiaExplorerAs you leave Sonoita there is normally someone in the middle of the road asking for money for the Red Cross. Rumor has it that sometimes it is the Red Cross & other times it is the locals collecting beer money.
Close to Penasco it is hit or miss for a military checkpoint, mostly they are not there & the last couple of times they waved us on. If they do check your vehicle they can very thorough so make sure you don't have any empty shell casings etc. from shooting. Most of the military wear masks. - RollnhomeExplorerThanks for the information. I'm not concerned about check points or ag inspection stations. We have been through bunches of them.
Just trying to get an idea of travel time so we are sure to be at the park before it starts to get dark.
Need to spend some time at the border trying to turn in my ten year permit from my previous motorhome. I sold it to by a new one but still had sticker on windshield. I removed it an have it but.... Have all the paper work showing sale in USA but that may mean nada Sur de border. Plus gotta stop in Ajo for insurance.
Mexicowanderer just joking. I am also aware USA requests Mexico conduct these checkpoints and funds a portion of the costs. - hypoxiaExplorerUnless things have changed you have to turn the permit in about 15-20Km past Sonoita on the road to Caborca, I think it was in the little green shack.

Sorry, but that's not going to happen, regardless of how much proof and paperwork you bring with you.. You are going to have to go through a very very long and painful process dealing with the folks in Mexico City to get your old TIP cancelled. And more bad news is that you cannot get another one issued in your name until the old one gets cancelled. Been there, done that and it is a long and frustrating experience.
There have been several discussions on this topic in the past, and they contain links to sites with details on how you have to do it as well as numbers to call in Mexico City. Do a search and read all the bad news. - RollnhomeExplorerYeh of little faith :) Hey it's worth a shot. I can always put in my wife's name. They will or they won't; no skin of my arrs either way. But like I said it is worth a shot.
