Colorado hwy 131

We have a 40 ft motorhome towing a jeep. Looking at this route north to Steamboat from Leadville. Anyone taken this hwy?
  • The preferred route from Leadville to SBS with a big rig would be hwy 9 north from Silverthorne to Kremmling and picking up hwy 40 over Rabbit Ears Pass to SBS.
131 may be doable but its a narrow winding road thru the middle of no where with no services. during the 12 yrs I lived in SBS I only used 131 to get to the Colorado River for kayaking.

    Exactly correct. Enough said.

Guess I'll be the odd one on this. I have traveled from Denver to Stagecoach SP, which is off of 131, by different routes pulling doubles. My preference is 131 from I70. Yes, two lane but not a lot of traffic and there are a few small towns and it is shorter then 9/US40, which are also 2 lane. JMO
