One of the best sources of information, that I have found is from the Bell Family Company. Tim Bell, was raised at a road house on the Alaska Highway, that was owned and operated by his family, so lots of first hand information in his many publications. You can order them on line or pick up many at the visitors centers once you cross into western Canada. Many of them are location specific, such as of Whitehorse, a nice size to carry with you as you enjoy the town. They formerly put out a paper copy guide to the Alaska Hwy which was excellent, IMHO, and I still have a copy, but for some reason they dropped it a number of years back. Most/all (?) of their publications are free. He does sell advertisements in the guides and does sell the guides to the involved, governments of the area he covers. This is how he keeps them free, to give out to visitors.
