Crossing at Columbia

Hello all,

I'll be crossing at Columbia in the next few days. I have crossed here once before, but this time I need to do all my paperwork at the border. In previous years I had all my docs ahead of time.

As I understand it, I can get my tourist visa right at the border? Can they issue and cancel TIPs at the same place?

Is there a photocopy service there?

Thank you
  • Great info on the toll road, thank you...I did not know it.

I also know that Columbia is a good choice south, but not north...though our experience at bridge 2 north in May was a long ordeal. We were searched twice manually and x-rayed once.
  • Remember though that Columbia has limited hours of service. On Sundays they are only open for a few hours, through the week the hours are from 8 am to midnight I believe, though you wouldn't be crossing that late anyway. Plus most likely you will be traveling on the Texas toll way to get to the Columbia bridge. You may either prepay online or they will take your license plate picture and mail you a bill. www.texastollways.com It was $3.99 a few years ago.
  • Yes they issue all the paperwork there and also cancel them on the way out. There was photocopying there in Jan. 2013. The problem is leaving Mexico at Columbia on the US side.
