Thank you Veebyes. Sounds reasonable. Is there a software that you would recommend to chart our course?
I am a 2011 version MS Streets & Trips refugee. It is a stand alone program that resides in its entirety on my rather aged laptop. It is like having every map of the US & Canada that was ever produced on paper, right down to mall carpark layouts, just a few clicks away. No need for internet connection. It is also GPS enabled so it can be used on the road.
I only know of one other stand alone program still available. It is done by Delorme. Going to have a look at getting that one since the 2011 MS S&Ts is getting a little old & confusing with changes in some roads & interchanges.
On the road we also use a stand alone GPS. The destination for the day is put into it but the laptop route is followed because that one is not necessarily what the stand alone GPS wants us to do.
We try to stay off the interstates favouring the highways that used to be the main ones before the interstates. You get a bit more flavour of the country that way.
