Crossing to Mexico with Truck Camper & Dually F350

I've read reports of pickups over 3500kg GVWR being denied entry to Mexico but most of them are from 2016/2017.

Is this still an issue? Hoping to cross at Los Indios in 9 days.

Thanks!
  • Call ahead many boarder crossings are closed because of the virus.
  • Update: just traveled from Belize to US border in same rig. Mexican border at Belize gave me 7 days visa and TIP no questions asked. Smooth sailing to US border.
  • Never updated this thread, sorry. Made it through after 5 attempts at different crossings. By the time we crossed it was night and we slept at the border and departed at dawn. No issues after crossing.
The tip exemption for overweight vehicle required a polite conversation en espaƱol with an official. After getting the TIP we had to try 5 different crossings between Brownsville and McAllen before an Aduanero let us through saying "That type of camper doesn't require a title".

Good luck, be polite, and don't give up.
  • But if you work with the system, it's still easy to cross the border and visit a foreign country!

It is still an issue at many crossings except nogales, you can avoid it by getting the permit on line ahead of time and avoiding the laredo crossing

I would also arm yourself with the documents available for download at Border info.

You can also take your truck to a scale, unloaded, no tailgate and just vapor in tank and hope it comes in at less than 7710 ibs. Either way, your GVWR minus that weight is your crago capacity and they will come in at less than 7710. With the Sat regs you can download at that link, that should give you an argument

Boy am I glad we went before this nonsense began.

Anything new on this? What was your experience? Were you able to cross with your truck?

I'll let you know after I try to cross on the 14th

  • Thanks for the reply!

I printed out those pages so hopefully they help. My title shows GVWR at 10000 lbs but also shows unladen weight of 6500lbs so maybe I can argue that the difference (3500lbs) is my "CAPACIDAD".

I took the extra step of drawing over a faded sticker on the door panel. Maybe it'll be the little extra they need to be convinced. :)
