Dealing With Unrest (tips)
Let's say you are walking down the street in Oaxaxa and suddenly you see an unruly mob carrying mantas - banners, coming toward you. Simply ducj into the nearest doorway. If it's a store or hotel that'd be great. If it's a home knock on the door. When it opens point down the street and if you need to, put a worried look on your face. This isn't the USA. The homowner will take a look and swing the door open. Usually a person can diddy-bop ahead of a demonstration with ease. Whistle up a taxi. Having been through countless marches and demonstrations it would take planning and
to end up in the middle of one. Demonstrators are not going to beeline to an RV park where no one would understand or care about their issues.
I've been twice delayed on Mex 200 in front of the X Villages where armed indigenous stopped motorists and were grieving their complaints against local goverment "injustices". They saw the concerned smile on my face, white sgin, foreign plates, and they opened up a lane for me and I departed. Most of them had been drinking. I encountered a mob of ten thousand marching down Ave Indepencia in Mexico City. I ducked into a casa de empenos, a pawn shop, and before I knew it I had been invited to comida, the afternoon meal.
Educated srore owners and shop keepers, doctors, and anyone else literate and bi-lingual have the ability to express facts about personal safety and security in Mexico.
I have let my frustration show regarding fear mongering on this site. Freedom of expression is one thing - pontificating untrue or exaggerated information is another. It is twisting arms that distorts reality. Talk to MEXICANOS when you are down here. Please don't try and scare unsuspecting newbies. There ARE security concerns down here. Real ones. But they are seldom mentioned never mind described in this forum. Myu temper got the best of me. Use your curiosity to query Mexicanos.
