Not surprising on prices. We're always way more expensive up here in many cases. But on bulk purchases, I have no clue where you could do that here in Canada. I only know that you can get the stuff (as evidenced by my previous post). My truck doesn't need the stuff, thankfully.

On a side note, I was at my dealer a couple weeks ago spending some big bucks on maintenance and repairs. I took a gander at a few of the 2013 offerings in the 3500 series of RAMs. I just about spilled my coffee when I glanced at the dash board of one diesel truck and spotted a DEF gauge. That's right, a DEF level gauge. They sacrificed the voltmeter (probably displayed digitally in the DIC) for this. I thought that was interesting, and probably a good idea.

My Chevy tow vehicle uses about one gallon of DEF per thousand miles, so with the 6 gallon tank I can run between south Florida and Fairbanks, then top off. I carry a gallon or two with me when on the road and use it before buying new as the DEF does have a shelf life.

In Canada, any Canadian Tire (CT) store, or even Walmart, should carry it. I've seen gallon jugs of it on the shelf at CT stores in Port Alberni and Nanaimo, so I would suspect any of the stores should have it.

Plan to carry enough to get from Ft St John to at least Whitehorse or Tok. There was not much available last summer outside the larger towns.

Picked up a new F550 last weekend in Fairbanks and drove to Anchorage...since this was the first new diesel I've purchased in a while, it was the first I'd had a need for DEF, so naturally, I looked for it wherever I stopped.

DEF was available in Fairbanks, Nenana (just one jug that I didn't buy), Trapper Creek, Wasilla (at AIH of all places) and Los Anchorage.

FWIW.....

There are plenty of truck dealers in AK selling engines that require DEF. It is available. Just look around, maybe make some phone calls while you are in the lower 48 and map out when/where you will need it and where to get it. Know before you go...

Yes, it's available in Canada and Alaska, but bring your wallet and be prepared to look if you're off the beaten path. This last summer I couldn't find any bulk (at the pump) dispensers in Alaska and the ones in Canada were a ways off the routes we used going up (Sweetgrass, Edmonton, Dawson Creek, Tok). I took 3 five gallon containers up that I used when we were up there for the summer. I used a $5 electric drill pump to transfer to the rig. We ran filled up at Shelby, MT and were able to make it up and back to Delaware without purchasing more.
