Denver-Moab-Mesa Verde-Colorado Springs
Last 2 weeks of July we are planning a trip to Colorado. 2 nights each in Golden, Moab, Mesa Verde and CS with a 3rd night in one of those. The DW and kids 21, 19, 17, and 10. Looking for suggestions ...

You should stop at Four Corners, just because it's there. If for nothing else, go for the frybread.
I don't know how far you're willing to drive for a day trip, but a visit to Chaco Canyon would be a great compare & contrast to Mesa Verde. They're very different from each other in makeup and scale, but they should both be on everyone's bucket list.
