Reserve tours online at the park website asap, otherwise you may not be able to take many of the tours.

Albuquerque Zoo, Aquarium, Natural History Museum, you can ride the Roadrunner Rail up to Santa Fe. I normally stay at the Isleta RV just south of Albuquerque on I25 @ less than 10 minutes to downtown. The Roadrunner picks up right at the camp ground. There is a shuttle to & from the casino & the food is good in the cafe. http://www.isleta.com/lakesrvpark/default.aspx

When in Santa Fe we enjoy Santa Fe Skies. While there spend a lot of time walking the streets. The churches are very impressive. The square is nice with lots of Native Indians selling their jewelry. The TexMex food is fantastic. Try Tomasitoes by the train station downtown. When at Mesa Verde be sure to take the ranger guided our for only a few dollars. It is well worth your time as you get to see a cliff dwelling up close. Enjoy!

Durango Silverton Railroad is a must

What sort of time frame are you dealing with? Leaving within a few days/weeks, or planning for later in the season? Do you have a specific destination at Mesa Verde? Staying inside the park at Morefield, or one of the commercial CG/RV parks outside in the Mancos or Cortez areas?

If you're leaving soon, as mentioned, you'll need to get reservations for some of the popular sites inside Mesa Verde. Also if you're planning on staying at Morefield, hopefully you already have reservations there. If you have some time to tour the area, there's a lot to see and do in the Cortez/Mancos/Durango area. Just need to know what sort of time constraints you may have.

Depending on how much time you have, if you get interested in the Ancestral Puebloans, you could also visit the Anasazi Heritage Center museum just up the road in Dolores, CO. Also nearby is Hovenweep National Historical site with great ruins you can walk through with far fewer crowds. The Four Corners area of course has numerous things to see, such as Monument Valley, depending on how far you want to go.

All the folks who really like northern New Mexico could keep you there for months! So much to see and do--everyone has great ideas. So add these, Los Alamos Nuclear Museum, Old Road to Taos, Shidoni Foundery, Chaco Canyon, Geocaching in Santa Fe, golf in Santa Fe, Bike riding in Albuquerque and Santa Fe, Taos, and Great New Mexican food!

Mesa Verde is great, and as the poster above stated, don't miss the Durango Silverton railroad. That was something not to be forgotten. If you go, be sure to spend enough time looking around Silverton.

Depending on your direction north from Albuquerque the road is endless. I would do a loop making stops along way if you can. Head to Monument valley and Four corners, thru Mexican Hat, Valley of Gods, Bluff, to Mesa Verde, Durango, down to Chama (Also has scenic train), Ghost Ranch, Santa Fe, Cerrillos, Madrid, you may never want to go back to where you came from..lol. Enjoy.
