deposits on motorhomes?

I just talked to Rafael from Roca Azul. He spoke to Banjercito and got the impression that starting this year you will have to pay a deposit on Motorhomes and trailers as well. Which menas an $800 depsoit for those towing.

This apparently as of June this year. Until we get some reports, its hard to confirm.

The actual permit has increased to $59.10 US
  • how many people have traveled to Mexico with their rvs without any issues with permits, crossings, papers, transito,

Very few problems and nothing we can't handle. Never one problem with transito or law enforcement of any kind in over 40 years of travel to/from Mexico.
  • This is due to recent changes in regulations, or them getting more picky over existing ones. I have been collecting accounts of incidents. It's more of a concern to me as I dont want to show up with 10 rigs and have some turned back, including myself since I have a 1 ton. I have found out one thing for sure, don't cross the guatemalan border and let your permit expire if you have a truck over 7716 lbs gvw.
  • What happen if you did not return your 10 years permit, you sell your RV and want to go with another one?

Well it does fit with another rumour that after June 16th, no more 10 year permits, only 180 day. Still all of this is rumour, and we wont know until we get reports from people crossing. We are getting conflicting info from banjercito & SAT officials. The story is different with each one we ask.

My purpose in posting it is to flush out anyone who has crossed in the last month and what happened. I spoke to Rafael today from roca azul and a banjercito official told him they are trying to stop people abandoning RV's in Mexico and selling them illegally to mexicans.

As I suspected, this is just a rumor and is FALSE! I applied online for my TIP for my 5th on Aug 21 and rec'd it via USPS today. There was NO DEPOSIT (as rumored) and it is for 10 years (NOT 180 days as rumored).
  • Just another false start on an issue that concerns most or all of us - unless you're flying in. To return and drive south past the hassle-free zone I would need a new ten-year permit, as the one I have was issued in 2003! But a lot has changed and once the wall goes up and Mexico needs to pay for it, one will need to sell all their worldly possessions just to pay to drive in! It will feel like 1848 all over again, power conquers all?

Incidentally, we never had a problem doing eight drives down into Mexico, a year and a half of our lives. Never stopped by police, robbed of even threatened. We did about 25,000 miles driving there, yes, got lost a few times doing it, but always a good adventure. Miss the people now we're not going.

    Viva Mexico!
