deposits on motorhomes?

I just talked to Rafael from Roca Azul. He spoke to Banjercito and got the impression that starting this year you will have to pay a deposit on Motorhomes and trailers as well. Which menas an $800 depsoit for those towing.

This apparently as of June this year. Until we get some reports, its hard to confirm.

The actual permit has increased to $59.10 US

  • Well it does fit with another rumour that after June 16th, no more 10 year permits, only 180 day. Still all of this is rumour, and we wont know until we get reports from people crossing. We are getting conflicting info from banjercito & SAT officials. The story is different with each one we ask.

My purpose in posting it is to flush out anyone who has crossed in the last month and what happened. I spoke to Rafael today from roca azul and a banjercito official told him they are trying to stop people abandoning RV's in Mexico and selling them illegally to mexicans.
  • Deposits on motorhomes will be hard to handle. MH's get a 10 year permit. Your tourist card is good for 180 days. I think Deposits are forfeited if your tourist card has expired. Are people going to leave $800 with the Mexican Gov. for 10 years??? I don't think they have put much thought into this change. Typical! One of my permits is good for 4 more years. The other is good for 9 years! My toad does not leave the no hassle zone so no TIP!!

I see nothing wrong with that. It's just an act of good faith and shows the dealer you're serious. However, I think an "emergency" clause should be in there someplace.

But, this will also make the buyer "think twice about it" before he/she jumps into the deep end. Buyer's regret can be devastating.

They are referring to a vehicle deposit payed to mexico to guarantee removal of the vehicle at the end of your trip. The deposit is returned upon exit.

last I read it was 200-400 dollars depending on year
  • Since MH and trailer TIPs are issued for 10 yrs that would mean they would keep your deposit for 10 years! There is no mention of any deposit for MHs or trailers on the online application.

    Highly, highly unlikely!!:S

  • Could you explain more about the 800? I really have no idea as to what you are referring to
