Direct TV Reception on PEI and Nova Scotia

The last time we were on PEI, we could not get DirectTV with out portable dish and tripod. Even had the local TV folks try it, with no success.
I now have a DirectTV Trav'ler roof-mounted automatic dish. Does anyone have experience with DirectTV reception on PEI?
We had no problem with either the portable dish, a Wineguard carryout or a former roof-mounted dish while on Vancouver Island. Our campsite on PEI is a few degrees further south than the site on VI.
If we can't get satellite TV to work, guess we'll just have to rough it.

  • Fundy has lots of hills, If you are going to have an issue, I'd think it would be there. You are free and clear. I use to live in Moncton, LOVE Fundy.
  • Currently in Fundy National Park in New Brunswich. No problem with reception. Leaving tomorrow for the north central part of PEI.
Do not anticipate any problems there either. Our destination is 50 miles farther north and 100 miles farther east than Fundy.

  • Thanks for all the responses. We are about a week out of PEI. I'll post the results after we get there.

  • In 2005 we got DirecTV with an 18" round dish but reception was greatly effected by the wind. In 2009 we had a dome and service was available but sporadic because it couldn't get low enough on the horizon. Now have an oval HD dish. We spent 9 week in PEI in 2012 and got great reception everywhere we went on the island.
  • In addition to the newly-installed DirectTV Trav'ler, I have a Winegard carry-out that I can also try if the other fails.
  • In 2010, we got DTV all through PEI and up to Cape Breton in Nova Scotia on our tripod. It's a little weak so if you get clouds or rain, it will affect the reception. The Traveler is a bigger dish than our tripod but then it is trying to get three satellites so it may or may not work. You will probably have better luck with SD than HD since it will tune to the 101 satellite mainly.
  • I think you are probably pretty safe. There are people around here Nova Scotia with Direct TV dishes on their houses.
