DirecTV reception along the Alaska Highway
In planning for AK 2014 I can't seem to remember if folks can get DirecTV reception along the Alaska Highway in BC, Yukon, and AK. It seems the satellites are too low on the horizon to get reception....

I brought my along. I don't think it will work in Canada, but I don't really recall having much time to watch TV on the way up. Once in AK you will see they have to use a much larger dish than you have and you are correct, it will be pointing close to the horizon. That being said, just south of TOK, and on the highways to Valdez I was able to get a 60-65% signal, with my roof top dish, whenever I had a good view of the southern horizon. It worked fine for the 6 weeks we hosted at Dead Mans lake but we were in the only site that had the view.
The further north you go the less reliable the standard dish will be.
