all shipments into Canada are subject to federal GST. Provincial sales taxes may also apply. It is not a sellers duty to inform a buyer from point of sale of taxes, shipping costs. At time of sale, cost of goods is protected, shipping and taxes projected.
Canadian Goods & Services Tax ( GST) is a federal value added tax enacted to replace Tariff & Duty taxes on the adoption of the North American Free Trade Agreement ( NAFTA)
True.
So they would ship to our dock in White Rock (near Bellingham) and pick up their shipment and tear off the packaging and tell the border folks they owned it for years, we don't owe any tax. We got to the point we had to collect a "disposable fee" because we had so much trash packaging. Or maybe something had to be declared if the value was over lets say $5,000 so they would send in 2 different packages with price know being $2,500 versus $5,000. This went on day after day, year after year.
But the drug guys are real good. We would fax our freight bills to them every pick up and they would run the dogs by if anything looked fishy. I don't know how they knew but they did a good job.
