In Mexico for three months, unless the tap (faucet) was clearly marked as non-potable, we only used whatever water came out of the taps to fill our tanks and all drinking and cooking water comes out of our on-board tank. As a bit of an extra precaution even though it didn't seem necessary, I added recommended doses of chlorine (as plain liquid bleach) as I filled the tank. A couple of times I delayed filling the water because it tasted terrible, but we have found the same problem in other countries, especially parts of the US and Australia.
We have done the same thing motorhoming in 20 countries and never had any health problems remotely attributable to water quality.
Always hard to justify paying more for water in fancy containers than we pay for irreplaceable liquid fuels.
