Driving from Buffalo WY east to Custer State Park

We will be heading east on Interstate 90 and need to know if taking route 16 southeast at Moorcroft and going thru Newcastle would be a good short cut to Custer State Park. Is this a good route driving a Class C with a toad. Do we need to be concerned with tunnels or any other restrictions?

  • It's the way we go (from Gillette). You shouldn't have any problems at all. It's mostly just wide open prairie driving on a good 2-lane highway. The "short stretch" mentioned above is only a few miles as you approach Custer, and it's nothing to be concerned with.
  • There is a short stretch of twisty road and no shoulder but the speeds are slow and will be an easy drive. Just did it this afternoon with a 40footer and toad. More scenic than driving 90
