Driving from Guadalajara towards Mexico City

Hello everyone, really appreciate some input as to the state of the protests and gas stations from Guadalajara towards Mexico City. We are towing a pop up camper with our SUV and are lucky to get 400km out of a tank. We were advised against going to Mexico City and are planning to head to Puebla instead, any recommendations on places to stay? We will not be popping the camper up and are looking for a hotel to rest at with secure parking. If by some reason we cannot make it that far our back up is Pachuca? any comments? Any and all feedback is welcomed. We are new to the scene and are glad a place like this forum exists. Many thanks
  • If you want to get to either Puebla or Pachuca but avoid the heaviest Mexico City traffic you might want to take the "Arco Norte" around Mexico City to the east. This is a "cuota" with a couple of Pemex stations. Many truckers use this route around Mexico City.

    http://www.arconorte.com.mx/ . . . is the Arco Norte website

Not far off this route you could also have a chance to visit the amazing Teotihuacan. There is an RV park / campground there where you can safely overnight. Lots of restaurants etc. You can safely leave your vehicle here and visit Mexico City.

You can find free maps for Windows computers by looking on the Microsoft Website. These are the most current maps showing new roads. Download any maps for free.

  • Apparently the unrest has subsided, the government sent a bunch of hoodlums to brake windows and create fear in the protesters and it has had the correct effect, today Thursday traffic was normal and the police is now out again as opposed to yesterday that you could not find one, traffic in to Mexico City has resumed so you should be OK, I am in Mexico City at then moment so gar so good, no shortage of fuel or long lines today at all or yesterday for that matter.
