Hi Calicajun,
We have just returned from Yellowstone after a week. We have 3 young children so we wanted to limit our driving time to 5-8 hours a day .
We visited Zion National Park, Mormon Temple, Idaho Falls along the way. The roads to Yellowstone are in good condition (except some roads inside the park which are under construction).
You should make reservations for your campgrounds in advance unless you don't mind staying at truck stops or gas station. We slept at Flying J one night because we couldn't find a camp ground.
Gas, propane and water are available at various locations in the park.
If you have any questions, please feel free to pm me.
