- robatthelakeExplorerWe are just passing through Eagle Pass on Our way from Mexico ,home to Western Canada! You are right, there isn't much there besides a Casino Parking lot with a small RV park.
We will head right through to A nice place at Rio Frio . - The_Mad_NorskyExplorerJust gotta ask.
Used to live in Eagle Pass, had family there. I have taken my RV down there and found it to be very short on RV facilities.
Has there been any improvements since say about 2007????? - robatthelakeExplorerWe would like to see and compare Carlsbad Caverns to the Karchner Caverns in Arizona! We have visited Kartchner in previous years. Hard to beat, but Open to comparison for sure.
We will spend a couple of Days At Rio Frio visiting friends then head West and North!
Hoping that all the snow has melted by the time that We get there! - TexasShadowExplorer IIX2 for the Carlsbad, Cortez route. From Carlsbad, go north to Roswell then west up through Lincoln over to I 25. En route, just past Carrizozo, is a nice gov campground in the Valley of Fires lava flow. Interesting and a nice campground with water etc and dump.
We take 550 out of Albuquerque up to Durango CO then go west to Cortez from there.
As stated that time of year is a little iffy re late snow storms, but they are usually brief. - 4runnerguyExplorerThere is no fast, straight road to get to Gateway. Depending on which road you use, plan on taking some time to traverse the last 20-40 miles or so.
I'd plan your trip to visit Carlsbad Caverns. Best cave in the US IMHO.
I'd plan to head through Cortez and north from there. While in Cortez, Mesa Verde isn't very far away.
Be aware that even in late April, the CO high country can get significant snowfall, so a scenic route that takes you through Ouray or Telluride, can get pretty iffy after a snow storm.
