East coast from NY City to Jacksonville florida

We will be traveling in Sept from New York City down the coast to Florida. Want to see as much as possible. Some of the New Jersey coastline, is it worth it to go as far as Cape May? Washington D...

Don't disregard US 301 down the west side of the Chesapeake Bay. US 301 and US 17 are the old Florida routes that my grandparents used to snowbird.
