East Coast Route

I did a earlier post about a month ago about my west coast to east coast trip and back. I'm towing a 27ft. travel trailer.

I've decided to reverse my route. Instead of going from north to south I decided to go south to north from Virginia to N.J.

1.I'm going from Cherry Hill RV park in College Park MD to the KOA in Clarksboro N.J. Any tips on that route especially getting thru Baltimore?

2. I'm staying at the KOA in Clarksboro N.J. and driving into Philly for the Liberty Bell, etc. My understanding there are underground parking lots close by.

Any tips on parking close by and do you need reservations to see the sights by Independence Hall?

When leaving the KOA in Clarksboro I'm going to Liberty Harbor campground in Jersey City.

I need help on the best route getting there.

3. Any way to avoid toll roads? It looks like I-295 to I-95 to I-78 is the most direct route. Should I just bite the bullet and pay the toll, (probably $$$) or is there a better way?

It's been 27 years since I been to the east coast and that was only in the D.C. area.

Your help would be appreciated.

  • I'd rather go to Philly than nyc.

When you go to Philly, use the PHLASH system to get around to the historic sites. We really enjoyed Eastern State Penitentiary. Check out Al Capones cell.

No reservations are required at the historic sited.
  • If you take 295 up to 195 and get on the NJ turnpike there It will be $22.40 to exit 15E.. That is the best way IMO.

Unless you have oodles of time to get up there you can try to cut through but you will not be happy... Its well worth the 22 bucks.

Thats the best place to get on the turnpike. No need to get on earlier. 295 up is a nice ride. Some traffic area but it moves...

Not sure why your going to Philly... Nothing there and is worse then NYC IMO. Traffic, etc etc. Just a bad area.

It would be better to go see and stay a few days @ historic Cape may NJ, and do a 20 min ride to wildwood and see the historic boardwalk there.

From there the parkway up to exit 142A is $29.10.. Thats a nice ride . But trafficy after the raritan bridge.

As far as from maryland just take 95 and get around baltimore best you can. then 295 to the Del/memorial bridge.. Get in NJ as fast as you can.

Dont ride up PA side. You will not be happy.
