Edmonton to Osoyoos and Back - Advice welcome!

Hello! We are new here, and fairly new to RVing! We are planning to pull our 35ft. TT from Edmonton to Salmon Arm, to Osoyoos, and back to Edmonton during the month of August, towing with a F250. I'm hoping someone who has done that trip a few times can weigh in on the mountains, grades, etc. This will be our first time towing long distance and we would like to take it as easy as possible while hopefully hitting some of the highlights. Any advice or experiences would be most welcome and appreciated!
  • Edmonton to Kamloops passes through mountains, but not over anything significant. The high point is on 16 on the provincial border, but the climb from Jasper is gentle.

BC 5 is in a broad river valley.

I haven't driven 1 (TCH) east to Salmon Arm, but on the map it looks flat, though settle farmland and lake shores.

97B&A south to Vernon, and 97 to Osoyoos is also settled orchards and lake shore. Some of that is busy urban freeway.

All other ways out of Osoyoos involves some grades. Crowsnest climbs steeply out of Osoyoos, and has several more grades. But the last pass, Crowsnest iself, on the provincial border is as gentle as the 16 one.

TCH east of Revelstoke has a couple of good climbs, though it is a busy, and largely divided highway (Rogers Pass and Kicking Horse).
  • Good luck finding no mountains! First is you f250 a diesel, V10 gasser?
A look at the chart will show most roads go north and south the few that go east to west ALL include mountains, but ARE good routes that truckers use every day. Most (as I recall) are 2-3 lane - NO superhighways here, Just snake like. You will NOT make up much time between Ed. and Sick.

A look at my charts - trying to catch your route would be to go S. from Ed. to 11, around Red Deer then W. to 93 then S. to 1 (TC) Then W. to Sickmoose. or just go S. to Cal. and then W. to Moose.
I did NOT include 16 - the Yellowhead as it would take you a way north.

From the MOOSE S. on 97A & 97 to Osoyoos. Good RV park - just E. of Oso. run by first nations - I think the name is Ink-A-MEEP.

Also, check road I believe the TC was washed out, but by Aug I am sure it would be fixed.

I believe there are lots of RV parks thru either route, BUT remember lots of your fellow Albertan's vacation at that time AND in BC.

    Good luck
