I will eventually discover those easier routes!
Now for the Really Bad Piece!
The southern Exit over to the quota has more Pot Holes than pavement! It took just over an Hour from El Mirador Gate to the Highway Junction! this would normally take Us 35 Minutes Tops on this road in previous Years!
Until it gets repaired We will not be heading out there again! - TequilaExplorerI always go in this way:
After crossing the bridge at the north end of Navajoa, make a right hand turn very soon at the intersection containing the Sicombro Hotel and the GM dealer on your left. It is marked “Bacabampo”. The turn is before the sign.
Proceed a few kms down a boulevard with a deep canal in the center.
At the end of this road turn left on the Periferico and proceed to Pemex #2137 on your right. Immediately past this station take a hairpin turn to the right.
Follow this road for several miles south, passing through one medium sized town until you reach Pemex #9179 on the left. Here make a left hand turn, just before it.
Follow this road as it takes a 90 degree turn to the right, then south until it reaches a major intersection. Cross that intersection, then curve around to the right, past a graveyard until you reach a T. Turn left.
Follow the road south a few miles to the Hotel Mirador on the right. There are a lot of Topes along this stretch. Note there is one Y- intersection along the route. Take the right hand fork. (The left ends up as a dead end in a fishing village.) - snarleyExplorerHi Rob Wow- six rigs . The most we have ever seen is 4. It sounds like you did not take the Bacum cutoff-It really is a much better road because you completly miss the west side Perifico. We have also gone to Hautobampito by going straight at the Leys coming out of Obregon , rather than turning left.
As you know we skipped Hauto this year and came straight thru to Maz.
10 and 1/4hrs from San Carlos to Los Jaibas . The new bypass at Culican is really clearly marked and they had the right booth open. The left booth is really tight.
Hope to see you here- left at the traffic circle on the Mazatlan Beaches exit rather than right to Cerritos. - robatthelakeExplorerWe have made it through and Yes it is open and the Sunset was as promised Amazing!
No Green Flash Tonight though!
A comment on the Roads South of San Carlos !
From Empalme though to Obregon , some rough sections but generally acceptable.
Obregon to Navajoa peri ferric West!
15 D is wonderful Concrete...a few short Sinlgle lanes for Bridge construction ,but excellent and easy to get the rig rolling at 95 Kmh!
The western Periferico never changes , despite rumours that it is under repair it is still a crappy piece of road!
the eastern Periferico is in better shape ,but has the usual delays and diversions around broken down vehicles and such!
Once on the Road to Huatabampo things improve once again until You attempt the Bypass! Here once more the maintenance department has let Us all down! Potholes and Non Working Traffic Lights are the worst annoyances.
Then the Road out to Hautabampo has those bloody great Topes every 100 metres or so!
We call that section Topelabampo ! Why they had to ruin a perfectly good stretch of road with all those freaking Topes is beyond Me!
Any way once past the Topes, the road again resembles a nice country drive!
The El Mirador is Open and the Sand is Smooth, Beach clean , and the Free Margarita is Now a Free Whatever kind of Drink You want!
There were three Rigs here and We make Six!
Adios for now.... - TequilaExplorerNot that bad, you just have to watch for Tope alley south of Huatabampo. Worst thing about the place is wind. The sand there is very fine and the wind can make it a bummer. Only real bad road is the one over to the Cuota which comes out just south of the toll booth. You have to take that one slow and make sure you don't cut off anyone while avoiding the potholes. Worth it though it cuts a lot of distance off if you are coming in from or going out to the south.
- pomsplusExplorerHave heard the roads are terrible but the sunsets gorgeous.
