I have taken I-10 to Junction, then US 83 south. Two really nice, oak-tree shaded Texas State Park campgrounds beside rivers on that route--South Llano River SP at Junction and Garner SP north of Uvalde. We have stayed at both and highly recommend them. Garner SP was built by the CCC in the 1930's while my dad was going to Carrizo Springs High School and was his favorite Texas state park. South Llano SP's cg has a big bird blind with a multitude of feeders and water features and the fall migrant and winter bird watching is terrific.
