Rancho la Mesa on top of the hill overlooking town is a great location - but it is off the beaten path so you either have to have a car or call a cab. All new utilities and water so all is good with that. Few stay there so the extension cord trick can work. Best view of Janitzio and watching the early morning fog over the lake - city lights at night - best view we have seen in the area. Though you do need a car it is not that far from town. We find getting to the main plaza is shorter than from the other parks. No grass though - all gravel. They have fancy show horses and ostriches. The road in is dirt and rough but fine for the biggest rigs other than the entry/exit gate is a bit tight - once in there is tons of room. We have stayed there several times.
