Quite a few people have said they cannot find Rancho la Mesa. We never had a problem though we did wonder if we were on the proper road the first time. It is a dirt road that goes up and over 14D. I do not know how to post my map here. Maybe someone else can go to our blog and copy it?
It is on the hill south of town and overlooks the town and the lake as well as Janitzio - great view if you like that sort of thing.
It is a small resort that does weddings and events. They also have rooms for rent.
If you come on 14D from the east - which could be Morelia or if you come down from Quiroga on the east side of the lake you can jog over to 14D and then head toward Uruapan just one exit.
This would be the 120 which is the road to Santa Clara del Cobre if you were heading out of Patzcuaro - a main route that continues from the west ring road around Patzcuaro - hope I am making sense.
From the intersection of 14D and 120 it is only about 1/2 mile to the road to RlM. There is a sign (or there was) on the right side of 120 just before the LEFT TURN to the road into RlM. This is a 90 degree turn - there is another road that is about a 45 degree turn - you want the hard LEFT. 19.494695 -101.590072 Google Earth
Just a bit up this road is a CFE (electricity company) yard - we usually stop in front to unhook the car before going further.
A bit further you go up a hill to a bridge that takes you back over 14D.
This road is dirt and can be bumpy. It is only about 1/2 mile to the gate into RlM - there are signs. Going through the gate you need to make a hard left but not hit the gate - do not go straight to the office - go into the RV parking area . . 19.502180 -101.595686 Google Earth.
Our way into town and centro from RlM . . .
Leaving RlM go back out to 120 and take it toward town. Just about 1 mile from 14D on 120 you will see a sign - green overhead - with an arrow pointing right saying CENTRO - turn right - this should be Lerins at . 19.505762 -101.606727 - you may wonder if this is the correct road as it is very narrow and rough. Lerins is the road behind Once Patios and about a block from Centro. We park along this street and can walk all over the rest of town - 19.511960 -101.607726 would be Lerins where the walkway by Once Patios intersect. We have never had a problem parking here. But Lerins is not a street for large RVs.
Do not use GPS to get to RlM unless you set it up to take this route. If you put in the Lat Lon the GPS could take you on a route where driveable roads do not exist. The road shown going from RlM down to town is 4 wheel drive - if at all.
I think it is about 2 miles driving from RlM to Centro and from Villa Patzcuaro it is about 1.5 mile. Not sure from Pozo but it is further - I think about 3 miles.
Hope all of this helps.
