Am here in Torrey now. Head to Bryce on Friday.
Met a guy here in the RV park today and he said they are going to Bryce from here tomorrow. I asked him if he pulling his 5er down Hwy 12. He said yes. I asked him if he had driven it before. Well, he said, they had taken the truck the other day down to Boulder.
Ever heard of the Hogback? No, he says. Or the drive between Boulder and Escalante? No, he says.
As I look at his F-350 dooley I ask him how long his 5er is. Smiles, and proudly tells me 38 feet.
And he is from out east someplace.
When I tell him a little about what he has in store for him - Hogback, grades, tight curves, he just smiles.
And then says,"Well, I guess I am bigger than most anyone coming the other way so it is their problem."
I just walked away thinking this is exactly the mentality of some of those who drive these kind of roads.
And why I don't with the fiver.
