Expiring vehicle registrations

Does anyone know if they care if a vehicle registration expires before the 180 day permit expiry? For example if I have a 180 day permit good til July 1, and my registration (plates) expires on June 1, do they care? Obviously I will be out of Mexico before then. I suppose its best to get it on line to see if there is a problem rather than finding out the hard way at the border.

Anyone know?

    There is absolutely no problem. My 180 day FMM goes way beyond my US plate expiration date.

    Dunno if this is real or not:

    I read last year about some woman who supposedly went to jail down there for expired American tabs. I found this link that reportedly gives the whole story, but there's nothing left of the original news source except this post on the news channel's Facebook page.
