Returning from Park City, Utah. Planning on taking 95 South from I80 West through Fallon, Walker Lake, and Hawthorne then on to 359/160 to 395 on to Mammoth Lakes.Any problems with this route? I know I could just continue on I80 through Reno to 395, however I am just looking for a change of scenery. Not in a hurry. I drove semis for many years so I am not timid when it comes to pulling the signature set up.Thanks,RobertHuntington Beach, California

Nice drive, but there are delays on 359 when they are destroying old ordinance from the depot. Have a smooth trip.

Smart to avoid 395 through Reno/Carson City. Your route is a good way to go. Around the Hawthorne area is very desolate, but not much traffic. Mammoth Lakes is beautiful in the Summer. Enjoy. Betsy.

What's so bad about 395 through Carson City/Reno? I'm planning to go northbound from Lee Vining (Mono Lake) on 395 all the way to Oregon.

Thank you so much for the info on 395 going up to Reno, and about 580. I didn't know about that.

Janss-I was referring to 395 that goes right through the center of Carson City up to Reno. Very busy. The new highway that by passes alot of that congestion is the way to go. As you enter Carson City it is a right turn and will be marked. We have taken 395 home to CA from Oregon. Good trip. Betsy.

Thanks for all the replies and the helpful information. My driving speeds are pretty conservative, especially when towing. However it wouldn't take much "daydreaming" for me to hit that six miles per hour window. Yes, I do pull over to let others pass when necessary.

Long's as your not smoking going thru Hawthorne, you'll be fine. I'm pretty sure. No..really...you're good.

Nothing wrong with that route. All freeway through Reno and through most of Carson City. Use the new I-580.
