Fastest route through Seattle??

Maybe this is a dumb question? We are planning next year's trip to California and want to get from the Can/US border at Blaine Wa. to southern Oregon or across the border into Cali. like maybe Yreka to our first overnight CG stopover. Will be travelling with two trucks & TTs.

Is there a combination of a faster route and time of day to get south of Seattle a faster way? Could we blast directly down I-5 okay if early in the morning like say 3-4 am? Have used 405 around the east side of Seattle for the past few years but it can get pretty bad too. Is there a better time of day for the 405? Is there any other possibility? Edmonds to Kingston ferry then down the west side of Puget Sound to Tacoma???

Ever since Bill Gates moved to Seattle, it seems to have the worst traffic on the west coast. :M I can remember being able to drive clear through any time of the day without even slowing.
  • I can remember one trip from Medford, Oregon to Victoria that it took us almost as long to get from Medford to Seattle as it did to get across Seattle. They have more accidents up there than anyplace that I have ever seen. I was just up there on I-5 a few weeks ago, and we always seem to hit rush hour. Same old thing. I would think you would be in good shape early in the AM.

  • I only travel thru Seattle on the weekends there and back on I 5. Been doing this every summer for over 57 years as my DW is from Bellingham. Usually no problem unless there is a accident. We leave Bellingham around 5 AM on a sunday and travel to Valley of the Rogue State Park in Oregon on I 5. No problem getting a site on a sunday
