Flagstaff to Sedona? Safest way with a Class A + tow behind?

Hey friends.

I just read a post on this forum that 89A from Sedona to Prescott is not recommended for big rigs.

But what about Flagstaff to Sedona? I have a 34' with a tiny tow behind. Should I take 89A from flagstaff or 17 South then "Schnebly Hill rd"

Also, whats the cheapest rv park in sedona? Any good bon docking options? I found two parks there but theyre rates are sky high.

Thanks
  • Another Edit. Im coming from Bluewater state park New Mexico. So Im going to take 40 W till winslow, take 87 S. then a highway called 3 going north through a place called happy jack and then one called 213 heading west again to eventually get to 179. Avoiding all danger zones of the highway guide for truckers and big rigs. Has anyone done this? Super specific i know...
  • We went from the Grand Canyon to Sedona on 89A in a 35 ft MH towing a Jeep Wrangler. We took it easy and used transmission braking . Looking back at it it was not a wise decision. If anything had gone wrong it would have been difficult to recover. I had previously taken that route in a car.
  • Edit: I just read some more posts.

Im going to do 17 S to 179 N. Is that an OK drive for a full rig?
  • Same issues minus the towns to go through. Many do drive it in RV's and cause traffic back ups and aggressive passing. It is scenic but best done in the toad. There are truck brake check pullouts on I-17 and rest areas not to far from Sedona. I just stay in Flag and drive down.
