Forum Discussion
- GueroExplorerI was in Aguascalientes and Guadalajara last month. I have extensive middle/upper class family there, and visit biannually. When I open any one of the four print/digital daily newspapers, I am amazed at how many blue collar/manufacturing/professional jobs are available.
Mexico has a young, vibrant, professional class that works just as hard for less. A young friend of mine who worked at Softek in AGS just got a promotion to Atlanta.
Look, it costs just as much to live in AGS/GDL as it does here in Oregon, if you want to keep your present lifestyle. Sure some things are cheaper (fresh food) and some are more expensive (new cars). I have worked and lived in both places, and speak from that experience...
I have also camped in the Sierra Fria, NW of AGS. Incredible forested area full of wildlife and well managed by the state of AGS... - silversandExplorer

...gotta love Forbes, but be critical...we have close friends working therein.
I agree with tepetapan; the true number is very, very difficult to discern... - bighatnohorseExplorer II

Interesting is that the USA, as a government, does not like or even hates the fact that Mexico is growing into a world economic power, even stronger than before. It sends a bad message to those who read and understand international business and live NOB.
I disagree with that part.
It is unlikely the the "USA, as a government" is even cognizant of how you perceive it.
The Chinese investments in South America are eating the USA's lunch.
And the government doesn't seem to notice.
"Those who read and understand international business and live NOB" such as myself welcome a country that will enjoy greater prosperity with a stronger economy south of the border.
Canada to the north, and Mexico to the south - equal footing and a better life for all. - tepetapanExplorerNo one knows how many undocumented people cross in any direction. hence the word "undocumented". How would anyone really ever know? Politics play a guessing game, to use the numbers in favor of their latest, favorite cause.
Facts are facts, the economy is growing in Mexico, Industry is growing, money is flowing and National debt is very, very low. People are returning, investing in business and finding jobs. It is a beautiful thing.

There is an immigration shift happening right now with more and more people (Mexicans and Americans) moving to Mexico full time. For some its opportunity for others its a break in the noise of everything thats going on up there. Net zero migration numbers last year which means more people moved to Mexico from the USA than from Mexico to the USA (2013)
A lot of people who are going North are probably from other countries further south using Mexico as a conduit.
I'd be willing to bet the "zero net migration" numbers don't take into account that migration going north is significantly undocumented whereas migration into Mexico is very well documented. Very few Canadians and Americans are slipping under the fence on their way south
Regardless, anything that brings manufacturing jobs to Mexico is a good thing. Hopefully someday the average Mexican will be able to afford one of the cars made there - TequilaExplorerI suspect you are right about color marino, that stretch of beach is screaming for development. too bad. 2 years ago, the guy managing it then told me they wanted to develop condos there. I never heard about an airport, though, but it would not surprise me.
We need to scare more people away from Mexico. Not RVers, the all inclusive crowd. - bighatnohorseExplorer IIAside from the DROLL and uninteresting off topic posts.
Mexico is building up it's infrastructure.
They can build vehicles more efficiently than Japan (based on the article)
And that's not rumor.
The rumor around the closure of Color Marino RV park is that investors have plans to build out that entire stretch of coast.
Supposedly, an international airport just south of there is also part of the plan.
Not rumor;
The Baluarte Bridge has opened an interior city to a deep water port.
So...if you think an important part of the message is how many clicks Forbes magazine gets. . .I find it humorous if not a bit sad.
It took the Japanese 50 years to go from making cheap junk to Lexus's and Sony gear.
It took the Chinese 30 years to go from starvation to launching an advanced space program.
Mexico has the most liberal foreign trade policy of any nation. And there are many players in the game.
The smart money isn't on building bigger fences. - briansueExplorer

“old guy” has shown countless times over the years on this forum that he has no knowledge of the realities of Mexico whatsoever.
“old guy” – back around 2006 then President Bush signed a law that says the US gives shelter to refugees from Central America. The law specifically excludes people from Mexico and Canada. The people in the news being picked up and held are from Honduras, Guatemala, Nicaragua, El Salvador, etc. This is required by the law GWB signed. Mexicans who are caught are sent straight back to Mexico.
Many of the people escaping Central America do stay in Mexico and do not continue on to the US. The Mexican Gov’t has been putting a good deal of effort into this migration. Just as the Mexican Gov’t declared war in drugs and the cartels and has had the police and army and navy fighting the cartels to stop the flow of drugs into the US since 2006.
People in the US have some crazy idea that there is a way to “seal the border”. No educated person would ever think this is possible. You would have to have our entire military stretched across the entire 1,800+ miles.
The people from Mexico come to the US because they always have. A little over 150 years ago most of Texas, NM, AZ, CA, CO, UT were all part of Mexico and to this day Mexican-Americans make up around 30% of the population of some of these states. The people of Mexico have always migrated back and forth from south to north and north to south for hundreds of years.
Not only are all the car companies moving to Mexico but big companies like John Deere, Caterpillar, Freightliner, Kenworth, Cummins. All of the major car companies have BILLION dollar plus plants in Mexico. Giant agricultural corporations such as Dole and Driscoll and many others are moving many of their agricultural operations to Mexico. We see agriculture growing at an alarming rate all over Mexico. Many thousands of the best agricultural workers in the US have left and headed south again where there are jobs and they can be with their families.
Sure, there is still poverty and people still go north. But the current US president administration has deported more Mexican immigrants than any previous administration FACT!
And on the news today – Chris Christie – governor of NJ – went to Mexico today to try to improve relations with Mexico because he knows Mexicans by over $2 BILLION of products made in NJ where thousands of jobs are created due to these trade relations. Christie and ever other sane person knows something must be done about immigration reform.
Just the tip of the iceberg. Lots more could be said on this topic. But we just want to be able to RV where we want to RV. Why people have to make unpleasant remarks every time they visit this forum is beyond me – or are they just crazy people? - TequilaExplorerI was in Aguascalientes in April, Lots of auto plants there already, especially japanese.
BTW Rich, your wife made the cover of RV times magazine, teaching Spanish on that caravan you went on.
