Fort Worth to Denver best route

Hello Good Sam Team Members! I'm about to embark on a trip to Denver form the DFW area. I'm pulling my travel trailer of 10,000 lbs and want to know the best way to make this trip without going thru treacherous mountain terrain. Any good info would be much appreciated!

I've taken the route thru Raton several years ago but that was simply in my car. Is there another route that is much flatter? An extra hundred miles or so is ok but not much more than that.

Thank you,

Jack
  • You might look at I35 to Salina, Kansas then I70 to Denver. It's about 100 miles more than through Raton.
  • I made that drive a couple of years ago driving a U-haul truck helping an old friend move back to Montana, he hates cities and heavy traffic so we took 287 through Wichita Falls, then turned north at Amarillo through Dumas, and Lamar CO. As I recall there was one noticeable ridge line on that drive, but also some rolling hills in Oklahoma. For the most part though it was vast expanse of nothingness, I think Amarillo is the only town of over 10,000 people for about 750 miles.
