Forum dead

Am I the only poster that has noticed the forum is dying. This is peak Mexico Rv time and it has been 2 days with zero posts . Actually rv.net on the whole is suffering. It seems a lot of regulars have migrated to IRV2.
But the Mexico forum is just reflecting the lack of interest in Mexico rv travel.

  • RV sales are declining also. Maybe there is a correlation?

    You know what's really sad?

Every time I go into the Indianapolis, Indiana location Camping World, I always take a moment to talk to some of the employees, including the salesmen. There's almost always someone standing around. I'll start a conversation over something RV related and they will begin to chime in.

Now, I will begin to manipulate the conversation, which always leads to the question: "Have you ever heard of the internet forum site, RV dot net or OpenRoads?" And every single person I ask that question to, and I'm talking every Camping World I've ever been in, from Sturges SD, to Georgia, the answer is always a resounding, "No."

And then I tell them they should, it's their company's web site forums. And then I suggest the next time they get on a computer they look up RV.net and start reading.

Now, if Camping World won't even advertise or promote their own services, and their own employees don't even know RV.net exists, then how does other RV enthusiasts ever know.

Maybe if Camping World would let their customers know this web site exists, and the portals are Camping World, Good Sam, Coast-to-Coast, and MotorHome magazine, maybe participation would increase.

I'm just saying Camping World? Why not educate your employees?
  • Forum decline had been discussed often for the last year or more.
  • Hi moisheh,

I think you are correct. All the forum type boards are hemorrhaging members to Facebook.

  • The rvers I have seen or visited with this season say they are fed up with the forum. No news on rv parks, places to stay, etc. and off-topic posts.

Many have turned to boondocking and that isn't popular on the forum. We were with a caravan two days, a group of four for two weeks, and then a group of three after that. None show any interest in the forum although I think that they do check in from time to time.

Also, many are fed up with GS, CW, and all the affiliates citing the CEO as the problem. The issue was recently brought up on the Rv.Travel newsletter, I believe this last weekend.

We found this last month that we traveled to be a good one. Lots of good libres, places to boondock, a couple of very inexpensive rv parks that provide for us the basics that most rvers may not take to.

I miss the old days of the forum when it was upbeat and people were out reporting on what was going on.
  • It's winter. The forum always slows down. Seems like many just want to rant or be nasty to other posters. Taking out the cabin fever on everyone else I guess.
